Where Will You Be In 3013?

I’ve just completed a gruesome three-week business planning process. I’m still amazed how most small business owners in Nigeria rush into it without a plan. I now know why most of them fold up before their first anniversary or, if they survive, wouldn’t grow an inch five years later. I’m still reeling from the rigours of testing all my assumptions, checking out the competition and the worst part—the financial plan! Those spreadsheets are a nightmare.

 

 

After I was satisfied with my work, sure that all my assumptions were reasonable and the figures tally, I was confident of approaching my financier. I was ready to answer any of his questions.

 

 

Then I got thinking. Men make plans for almost everything. Well, except for death. Even though most people claim to believe in life after death, very few plan for it. And most of those who do, base their plans on the wrong assumptions.

 

 

If I were to ask you, “Where will you be in 3013,” what would you say?

 

 

“Dead!” would probably be your answer, right?

 

 

Is that all? You’ll just be dead? Will your body just rot and return to the earth as some people believe? You see? Wrong assumption.

 

 

By the authority of God’s Words, I’m here to tell you that there’s Heaven and Hell and your ultimate destination, where you’ll be in 3013, is one of the two (Dan. 12:2,3; Matt. 25:46; John 5:28; Rev. 20:14,15). The good news is: you can choose between them and plan for it. 

 

 

Make no mistake about it: it’s never too early to start planning. Just consider it a sort of retirement plan that you’ll draw from when you retire from this world.

 

By the way, you’re not too young to die. And Die you will: “It is appointed unto men once to die and after that the judgment” (Heb. 9:27). Death knows no discrimination: it is blind to age, creed, gender, status, politics, religion, race or geography. It takes all at the appointed time— most times, without warning.

 

 

You’ve every reason to plan for eternity. It’s like a billion trillion years raised to the power infinity. Imagine spending that in hell.

 

 

Originally designed for Satan and his horde of demons (Matt. 25:41; Rev. 20:10), Hell is also a punishment for those who reject Christ (Matt. 13:41,50; Rev. 20:11-15; 21:8), including those who masquerade as Christians but wilfully commit the worst atrocities against God and man (Matt. 25:41).

 

 

Hell is a conscious torment. The Bible describes it as a, “furnace of fire… [where there is] weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 13:50), “where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched” (Mark 9:48) and “[they] will be tormented with fire and brimstone” (Revelation 14:10).

 

 

Hell is eternal and irreversible. The Bible says, “The smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever and they have no rest day and night” (Revelation 14:11); “This is the second death, the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:14), “If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:15).

 

 

Would you not rather live forever in heaven? It is a holy place where there is no sin or evil (Psalm. 20:6; 1 Co. 6:9-10; Rev. 21:8,27; 22:15); a place of worship (Rev. 4:8-11) and paradise (Luke. 23:43; 2 Co. 12:4; Rev. 2:7). Heaven is a place of spectacular beauty (Rev. 4:2-3; 21:18-21); with glorious mansions for all believers (John. 14:2); it has a wonderful throne (Rev. 4:2-6); wonderful creatures (Rev. 4:6-8); odours and music (Psalm 45:8). It is a place where there is a fullness of joy (Psalm 45:8).

 

 

In Heaven, there are horses (Re. 19:14), wonderful rivers (Re. 22:1); and trees (Re. 22:2). It is a place of glory (Ps. 73:24)—the Lord Jesus is the Lord of glory (1 Co. 2:8)—and this glory refers to kingly splendour and wealth that abound in Heaven (Mt. 6:29). Heaven is illuminated by God's brilliant light (2 Ch. 7:1-3; Luke. 2:9; Matt. 17:1-3; Luke 9:29-31; Rev. 21:11, 23) which endows it with great beauty (Isaiah 63:1) and the manifestation of God's unfathomable wisdom and power (Psalm 19:1).

 

 

Heaven is a place without any unpleasant thing: No sorrow, pain, or death (Rev. 21:4), no hunger or thirst (Rev. 7:16) and no darkness (Rev. 22:5). It is a place of service (Rev. 22:3), a place in which everyone is like Jesus Christ (Heb. 2:10-11; Rom. 8:29; 1 John. 3:1-2).

Why should you be in hell when you can easily be in Heaven? Who no like better thing?

 

 

So, what do you need to do to go to heaven?

 

 

Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believe in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). And if you know Christ, but you’re not genuinely converted (in spite of your religious posturing), you should, “lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted Word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves” (James 1:21,22). Otherwise the Lord will say of you, “I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity” (Matt. 7:23).
