WHAT MAKES A WOMAN ATTRACTIVE? By Yorbin Wayo

I had some down-to-earth talk, with a number of guys, about what draws them to a woman. Even though there are different strokes for different folks, there were some things that a large percentage of them seemed to have in common.

The first brutally honest truth I found that they all seemed to say was that she must be attractive or physically appealing. Now, I know some church ladies are thinking that I must have interviewed some carnal, unsaved, men who do not know the value of inner beauty. Well, yup! I did. But interestingly, the saved ones also formed part of the large percentage of guys that felt this way.

So, is a girl not physically attractive unless she had a face fit to win a beauty pageant, and has the shape of a 35cl coke bottle? When I asked this question, their answers cleared the air.

Attractiveness to men is more than having a gorgeous face. Taking care of your physical appearance is very important and plays a large part in making you an attractive lady. One important thing is the clothes ladies wear, or rather, how they wear them. Some ladies wear clothes that are too tight while others wear clothes that are ill fitting or overly loose in comparison to their frames. Neither will do. Clothes that are too tight give guys one train of thought that they know will lead to no good, while clothes that don’t fit your frame or body make you look shabby. When dressed in properly fitted clothes, you have a smart look. In other words, it makes you attractive.

Her hair should also be well groomed. Even if she doesn’t wear Brazilian hair or Indian hair or God alone knows what they’ll come up with next, whatever is on her hair should be neatly done. Personally I’ve noticed that when you hair is in good condition whether it’s your natural hair or attachments of all sorts, you appear more attractive than when it’s rough. It kinda adds to your attractiveness.

The men I spoke to all had their preferences when it came to the kind of hairdo they liked. Some said they go gaga when they see million braids, others said they loved Weaveon. There were others who preferred girls with natural hair. Some didn’t care either way. They however all agreed that no matter how much they loved these hairdos, if it is rough, it’s a turn off for them.

One other very important thing they considered as attractive is a pleasant scent on a woman. While they also had different tastes in the kinds of perfumes they liked on women (e.g. light, heavy, fruity etc.) they all agreed that she had to smell nice. They find it unattractive when a woman has an unpleasant smell. Some of them especially liked it if she wore perfume, others were not so particular. The common denominator however is that she should not have an unpleasant smell. Deodorants are the cure for body odours if you are not exactly in love with perfumes.

It is undeniable that character is the paramount and most enduring quality of a person. I always said to my family that in my first few years at the university, I had great male friends. They liked me for who I was because on a scale of 1- 10 (of all the things I mentioned that guys said made a lady attractive) I would score myself a poor 3. Obviously it was my person they liked not my looks. However, in retrospect, I could have combined both and maybe my Knight In Shining Armor would have found me sooner.

Men are creatures of sight. They are simply designed that way. Knowing this, even if you are not the most beautiful girl on the block, you can do these simple things and be an attractive person so that you don’t let Mr. Right decide ‘nah, can’t be her’. If you are already married to Mr. Right the aforementioned will help to keep the flame of your marriage burning.

Interesting Stuff You Didn't Know About Christianity

Very few Christians care to know about the history of their faith. Below are interesting facts about some biblical characters and some historical trivia. Interestingly, most of the facts presented below are embedded in the scriptures. Have a look:

The Apostle Peter had a wife and he evidently travelled with her (1Cor 9:5).

According to tradition, Peter was crucified upside down in Rome prior to Nero’s death in AD68

The Apostle Mark was in Rome during Peter’s imprisonment (Col 4:10)

The epistle of 1 Peter was probably written shortly before the outbreak of the persecution under Nero in AD64

Jude was a brother of Jesus and like his brother James (author of the Epistle James and a respected leader of the church in Jerusalem) did not believe Jesus until after the resurrection (John7:1-9; Acts 1:4)

Jude took his wife with him on missionary journeys (1Cor 9:5)

Christianity is the largest world religion. There are about 2.2 billion Christians in the world

The history of Christianity in Africa began with in the 1st century when Mark the Apostle started the orthodox church of Alexandra (Egypt) in about 43AD

The Apostle Thomas is traditionally believed to have sailed to India in 52AD to spread the Christian faith among the Cochin Jews Diaspora, the Jewish Diaspora present in Kerela at the time. He is supposed to have landed at the ancient port of Muziris (which became extinct in 1341AD due to a massive flood which realigned the coast) near Kondungalloor. He then went to Palayoor (near present-day Guruvayoor), which was a Hindu priestly community at the time. He left Palayoor in AD52 for the southern part of what is now Kerala State, where he established the Ezharappallikal, or “Seven and a half Churches”. These churches are at Kondungallur, Kollam, Niranam (Niranam St. Mary’s Orthodox Church), Nilackal (Chayal), Kokkamangalam, Kottakkayal (Paravoor), Palayoor (Chattukulangara) and Thiruvithancode Arappally- the half church.

During the reign of the Aksummites (a dynasty that ruled Ethiopia), King Solomon, who was in power from 970 - 930BC, was visited by the Queen of Sheba (1 Kings10:1-13). Different theories have been presented as to where the queen was actually from. One Ethiopian story, called the Kibra Negast, states that the queen was actually Queen Makeda (said to have reigned from 1005 - 955BC in the coastal regions of Ethiopia). This story claims that when Queen Makeda went to visit King Solomon, she converted to Judaism, and they became romantically involved. She bore him a son, Menelik I, and at the age of thirteen he went back to Jerusalem to get his father’s blessing. Solomon, as the story states, appointed Menelik the first king of Ethiopia. Because of this, Judaism spread throughout Ethiopia. Falashas, or Black Jews, practice a simple form of Judaism. Because they lived in near isolation, the Falashas had only the first five books of the Bible, known as the laws of Moses.

Tariq Aziz, former Iraqi Foreign Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Prime Minister during Sadam Hussien’s reign, was a Christian

Antioch was the centre of Christendom outside Palestine. The apostles preached there before starting out on their missionary journeys, and in Antioch the term Christian, designating converts of saint Paul, fist came into use. Antioch is now Antakya in the Muslim nation of Turkey.

What Would You Do?

Amaka was surely a looker. She was tall, slim, light-skinned and had a figure that would make Venus De Milo green with envy. She was the type to cause a stir wherever she went. Done with the university where she studied Banking and Finance, she was now a youth corper in one of the far-Northern states, attached to one of the biggest banks in Nigeria.

The first day of the first week of the month is usually the busiest for most banks in that part of the country. Bank halls usually bustle with an army of impatient government staffs eager to withdraw their salaries. On one such day, Amaka’s branch manager summoned her to his office.

“Do you want to be retained in this branch?” the man said.

“Yes, sir!” she answered with delight.

“Meet me at this address, tonight.”

She was puzzled. Scribbled on the reverse side of the card was the address of one of the most popular hotels in the state capital. Not quite sure what to expect, she decided to make the appointment, anyway.

Once in the hotel room, the bank manager began to undress.

“What’s the meaning of all these?!” she bloated in indignation.

“Well,” the man smiled, “it’s either you sleep with me or you don’t get the job.”

What was she to do?

What would you do?

Will Northern Christians Vote APC?

Finally, INEC has registered the ‘true’ APC. The registration was greeted with mixed reactions. While supporters and sympathizers of the coalition of opposition parties were jubilant and were painting the pages of social media platforms with hosanna-in-the-highest-like lyrics, most people were completely indifferent while some contemplated the situation not without a little trepidation.

Whether right or wrong, most northern Christians (especially those in the North West and North East) perceive the APC as a gang-up between the Muslim North and Muslim South West to take over power to enshrine and continue the persecution and sociopolitical and economic subjugation of northern Christians. A lot of northern Christians believe they're not a tiny minority in the region, but are at least 40% of the northern population. They contend that they deserve a stronger voice and a proportionate representation in the power equation of the region and of the nation.

They point out the domination of the ACN by Muslims to buttress their position. All the South West ACN Governors (except the Ekiti State Governor) are Muslims. Almost all the political office holders in Lagos State are Muslims. Northern Christians fear the ACN has an Islamisation agenda for the South West and believe a gang-up with the CPC—a party whose members and supporters are almost entirely Muslims—would consolidate the Islamic ideal of dominating Nigeria. Most of these northern Christians would most likely not vote for Buhari, Tinubu, Fashola, El’Rufia, Massari or even Tumbuwal were he to decamp to the APC.

Of course you may think this position is absolutely myopic. You may also argue that northern Christians have not fared any better under a so-called ‘Christian’ president. A lot of politically sophisticated folks would say we should do away with this kind of tenuous religious and ethnic sentiments in our politics.

Unfortunately it is sentiment that motivates interest. It is interest (whether ideological, socioeconomic, class or religious) that drives party politics everywhere in the world. It is impossible to divorce religious and ethnic sentiments from the politics of a pluralistic society such as ours. The key is to ensure that these sentiments do not provoke extreme positions that infringe on individual rights, or are detrimental to the common good, or can harm our democracy.

So, even though this perception seems myopic, it is the reality in northern Nigeria today. And this perception is not fed to people in northern churches and religious gatherings as some are wont to think. It has rather been reinforced and entrenched by the maniacal insurgency of the Boko Haram (for which northern Christians bear the brunt), and ACN leaders’ objection to the government’s proscription of the terrorist group and the imposition of a state of emergency in three states in the North East.

Undoubtedly, APC has some support among some northern Christians especially in some North Central states such as Benue and Nasarawa States. But they are few and their political affiliation seems to be motivated by the need to find accommodating alternative political space after losing out of the rigorous internal party dynamics of the PDP in their states. Chief Audu Ogbeh, Senator George Akume, Senator Solomon Ewuga and former Governor Jolly Nyame are prime examples.

If the APC is to enjoy electoral success in 2015, it must not fail to address the concerns of northern Christians. They are a critical swing block whose votes will ultimately decide who occupies Aso Rock Villa in 2015, as it did in 2011 when it provided Goodluck Jonathan millions of popular votes and the requisite one quarter votes cast in most northern states. Failure to do so guaranties the APC the loss of a large voter base in 2015.

Where Will You Be In 3013?

I’ve just completed a gruesome three-week business planning process. I’m still amazed how most small business owners in Nigeria rush into it without a plan. I now know why most of them fold up before their first anniversary or, if they survive, wouldn’t grow an inch five years later. I’m still reeling from the rigours of testing all my assumptions, checking out the competition and the worst part—the financial plan! Those spreadsheets are a nightmare.

After I was satisfied with my work, sure that all my assumptions were reasonable and the figures tally, I was confident of approaching my financier. I was ready to answer any of his questions.

Then I got thinking. Men make plans for almost everything. Well, except for death. Even though most people claim to believe in life after death, very few plan for it. And most of those who do, base their plans on the wrong assumptions.

If I were to ask you, “Where will you be in 3013,” what would you say?

“Dead!” would probably be your answer, right?

Is that all? You’ll just be dead? Will your body just rot and return to the earth as some people believe? You see? Wrong assumption.

By the authority of God’s Words, I’m here to tell you that there’s Heaven and Hell and your ultimate destination, where you’ll be in 3013, is one of the two (Dan. 12:2,3; Matt. 25:46; John 5:28; Rev. 20:14,15). The good news is: you can choose between them and plan for it.

Make no mistake about it: it’s never too early to start planning. Just consider it a sort of retirement plan that you’ll draw from when you retire from this world.

By the way, you’re not too young to die. And Die you will: “It is appointed unto men once to die and after that the judgment” (Heb. 9:27). Death knows no discrimination: it is blind to age, creed, gender, status, politics, religion, race or geography. It takes all at the appointed time— most times, without warning.

You’ve every reason to plan for eternity. It’s like a billion trillion years raised to the power infinity. Imagine spending that in hell.

Originally designed for Satan and his horde of demons (Matt. 25:41; Rev. 20:10), Hell is also a punishment for those who reject Christ (Matt. 13:41,50; Rev. 20:11-15; 21:8), including those who masquerade as Christians but wilfully commit the worst atrocities against God and man (Matt. 25:41).

Hell is a conscious torment. The Bible describes it as a, “furnace of fire… [where there is] weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 13:50), “where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched” (Mark 9:48) and “[they] will be tormented with fire and brimstone” (Revelation 14:10).

Hell is eternal and irreversible. The Bible says, “The smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever and they have no rest day and night” (Revelation 14:11); “This is the second death, the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:14), “If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:15).

Would you not rather live forever in heaven? It is a holy place where there is no sin or evil (Psalm. 20:6; 1 Co. 6:9-10; Rev. 21:8,27; 22:15); a place of worship (Rev. 4:8-11) and paradise (Luke. 23:43; 2 Co. 12:4; Rev. 2:7). Heaven is a place of spectacular beauty (Rev. 4:2-3; 21:18-21); with glorious mansions for all believers (John. 14:2); it has a wonderful throne (Rev. 4:2-6); wonderful creatures (Rev. 4:6-8); odours and music (Psalm 45:8). It is a place where there is a fullness of joy (Psalm 45:8).

In Heaven, there are horses (Re. 19:14), wonderful rivers (Re. 22:1); and trees (Re. 22:2). It is a place of glory (Ps. 73:24)—the Lord Jesus is the Lord of glory (1 Co. 2:8)—and this glory refers to kingly splendour and wealth that abound in Heaven (Mt. 6:29). Heaven is illuminated by God's brilliant light (2 Ch. 7:1-3; Luke. 2:9; Matt. 17:1-3; Luke 9:29-31; Rev. 21:11, 23) which endows it with great beauty (Isaiah 63:1) and the manifestation of God's unfathomable wisdom and power (Psalm 19:1).

Heaven is a place without any unpleasant thing: No sorrow, pain, or death (Rev. 21:4), no hunger or thirst (Rev. 7:16) and no darkness (Rev. 22:5). It is a place of service (Rev. 22:3), a place in which everyone is like Jesus Christ (Heb. 2:10-11; Rom. 8:29; 1 John. 3:1-2).
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->

Why should you be in hell when you can easily be in Heaven? Who no like better thing?

So, what do you need to do to go to heaven?

Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believe in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). And if you know Christ, but you’re not genuinely converted (in spite of your religious posturing), you should, “lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted Word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves” (James 1:21,22). Otherwise the Lord will say of you, “I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity” (Matt. 7:23).

Meet The (Dis)Honorable Members Of The Nigerian Senate Hall Of Shame

These are the faces of the 35 senators who voted for child marriage and the legalization of paedophilia. They are the first inductees into the Nigerian Senate Hall Of Shame. We boo them at the top of our voices.

Watch what celebrated Nollywood actress, Stella Damasus, has to say about these goons:

IF YOU WANT TO MARRY A 13 YEAR OLD GIRL...

...This man and more than 60 of his paedophile friends in the Nigerian Senate will not give you their 13 year old daughters to marry. Their kids are studying in the best schools abroad. They've given them golden pens. Why should your teenaged nieces, sisters and daughters be given wrinkled, Viagra-gorged penises?

As for me, if I ever catch you near my little nieces, read my lips: "I WILL SHOOT YOU!"

They've pens, not exactly golden, but just as potent. I've also taught them taekwondo.  So, if you're a perverted senator with an inordinate craving for children - keep off!

What justifications have you, paedophile senators? Religious? Are you more religious that the people of Turkey, Indonesia, Pakistan, Malaysia, Egypt, Jordan or Senegal? Are you more pious and radical in the practice of your faith than the people of Sudan, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Palestine, The UAE, Bangladesh, Qatar, Bahrain, Dagestan, Albania, Libya, Mali, Azerbaijan and Syria? These countries have specifically banned child marriage, paedophilia, and child rape in their laws and constitutions. Some have even used strong words such as "repugnant", "unacceptable", and "un-Islamic" to describe the acts.

My nieces (I've six of them, the eldest is 16) are Children, Not Brides. KEEP OFF, PERVERTS!

If you have little nieces, sisters or daughters, join in the fight against Child marriage, child rape and paeodophilia. If the paedophile Nigerian Senator and his friends disgust you, share this post with all your friends.

KLEPTOMANIAC! READERS ARE LEADERS. By Yorbin Wayo

My sister in-law and her sister were having a conversation one day and when one of them mentioned the word ‘Klepto—’ my little nephew completed the word, ‘—maniac’. Of course they were all shocked that he knew the word.

“Where did you learn that word from?” his mother asked.

“It’s Tintin that said it,” he replied.

He was three at the time. Recently, he asked what molten magma. Frankly, I was speechless for a second. I didn’t even know he knew what a volcano was.

Children learn virtually anything you throw at them. I remember my mum using words that seemed kind of big for our age when we were younger. Being an English teacher, she had a thousand and one such words. We would ask what the word meant, she would explain and it would stick. If you want your child to learn certain things, don’t assume that your child will learn it all in school or Sunday/Sabbath school. If you are an adult, especially if you are a parent, when your children ask you questions don’t wave them off and assume they won’t understand. Explain it in the simplest way you can and you’ll see that they’ll take it in their stride.

One of the best ways to widen children’s horizons is by helping them imbibe a good reading culture. One of the things I am eternally grateful for is that growing up, my dad encouraged us to read books. My sister would gobble up newspapers when she was just in primary three! Then she would discuss current issues on the paper with my dad and ask a million and one questions about the stories she read and words she did not know. My dad also made sure he took us to the public library on Saturdays so we could read to our heart’s content.

Reading helped us to learn a myriad of things that we were not necessarily taught in school. For instance, I can’t think of any school that has Greek mythology in its curriculum, but they are one of the most interesting stories one can read. It is from reading Greek mythology that one will fully appreciate why they call a person’s weak point his Achilles heel. One can travel around the world and learn many things about the beautiful things and people our awesome God created just by opening the pages of a book.

If you grew up watching TV programmes like Sesame Street, Square One, Pigeon Street, Muppet Show etc. you unconsciously learnt certain things and had fun while at it.  For instance: thanks to the Sound Of Music, which is a classic, almost everyone who watched it learnt the tonic sulfa. We can look for these kinds of videos for our children to learn useful things and have fun while at it. I think this is better than our children watching some Nigerian home videos that don’t seem to teach useful values.

While I agree that some people are more inclined to learn by audio or visuals, there is still something about reading that makes a person stand out. Device methods of your own that will work for your children or a child around you that will make them read. Take time to go through and select videos and books that are in line with your values and make them available for your children as much as you can. “In the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years specified by the word of the LORD through Jeremiah the prophet, that He would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem” (Daniel 9:2). Let your children understand by books. Remember READERS ARE LEADERS!

NORTHERN YOUTHS DISSOCIATES SELF FROM THE ACF & NEF’s SELFISH RESOLVE TO RECLAIM POWER IN 2015.

17th July, 2013

THE NORTHERN YOUTHS NETWORK

PRESS RELEASE:

NORTHERN YOUTHS DISSOCIATES SELF FROM THE ACF & NEF’s SELFISH RESOLVE TO RECLAIM POWER IN 2015.

The Northern Youths Network (NYN) unambiguously dissociates itself from the selfish and sentimental campaign being peddled by our supposed elders on the platforms of the Arewa Consultative Forum and the Northern Elders’ Forum respectively as led by Prof. Ango Abdullahi, which seeks only to return power at the centre to Northern Nigeria in 2015.

As a budding organization, whose cardinal objective is to raise the level of consciousness of the average northerner, in a bid to compel a paradigm shift in the socio-economic and political affairs of northern Nigeria in particular and the nation in general, we wish to state very clearly that ethnicity, religion and all the other primordial sentiments which our elders have whipped up in the past to sway the choices of the people during election times, must be hurriedly discarded as we prepare for the 2015 general elections, so that credible and competent leaders will rule the nation and advance our democracy.

We consider it very inappropriate for a man of Prof. Ango’s intellectual standing to describe the South-South region as a tiny enclave of a few people, not bigger than Kaduna State! This is a man who would pose tomorrow as a nationalist, an elder statesman! Yet he cannot even try to conceal his regional bias. It is ludicrous to hear him boast of the demography of Nigeria as bequeathing the north with the potential to keep power indefinitely, on the basis of one-man-one-vote! May we humbly ask which age group constitutes the virile population of northern electorate? It is undoubtedly the youths! But have the elders considered it imperative to consult the youths with a view to harmonizing positions in this pointless crave to return power to the north in 2015? No! They just assume that as usual, they can set their selfish agendas and the youths, most of whom they have deliberately left impoverished, will fall in line automatically! But this time, they are in for a big surprise.

Experience has shown us that politics is not really a game of sentiments, but of interest! Therefore any leader who is capable of protecting and advancing the interest of the north would enjoy the support of the northern youths; it does not matter to us if that leader is from a relative minority group in the south-south region!

We should take a moment to ponder that in the 52 years of Nigeria’s independence, power at the centre has resided in the north for much longer than it has been in the south. But what do we have to show for it in the north? It is pervasive poverty, insecurity, hunger, disease, illiteracy and underdevelopment! The egocentric and recycled politicians of northern Nigeria, who have over the years used poverty and illiteracy as instruments of oppression to subject the majority of their fellow northerners to be at their beck and call and hence to do their dirty biddings, do not really wish well for their people. They do not have any genuine desire to develop the northern region and its people.

Today, the average Northern youth is being regarded as a terrorist, a sad situation which is far from the truth! This is because our elders have not shown any tangible commitment towards checkmating the Boko Haram upsurge and other hostilities in the north. Instead the northern elders prefer to leave the youths perpetually impoverished, so that they can hardly see beyond their noses! Our northern leaders do not really believe in leadership succession, that is why they do not care to empower the youths.

We are fully aware that some of the northern elders are some of the richest persons in Nigeria. They hold a good number of the oil wells in the south-south region of the country. But what do they do with their stupendous wealth? They only entice the people with peanuts and alms, to keep them begging and looking up to them forever, while their own children are exposed to the highest standards of education abroad. That is really not fair. We recall that Late Chief Gani Fawehinmi was personally able to place several indigent students on scholarship! How many northern elders can boast of similar feats? It is high time the youths opened their eyes to the antics of these disgruntled politicians.

In conclusion therefore, we the members of this organization, on behalf of the teeming youths of northern Nigeria, are very willing to negotiate with His Excellency, President Goodluck Jonathan, GCFR to see how he can intensify his current efforts to salvage northern Nigeria from underdevelopment and backwardness. We appreciate Mr. President’s commitment to educational development in the north, as evident in the Almajiri Schools Project he had embarked upon. We shall see how he can intensify this effort beyond 2015, if he eventually decides to contest again for the exalted office of President. We know that education is capable of liberating the north, ending insecurity and terrorism, as well as all the other malaises confronting the north. Thank you.

Mallam Ali Kano,

National Coordinator
