Burnt St Theresa church Funtua |
According to Premium Times two churches were burnt on Monday
afternoon at Tudun Wada, Funtua Local Government Area on Katsina State by
rampaging youths, witnesses have said.
The unrest started when some students
at one Ideal School, a private secondary school in the community, reported to
the youths outside the school that a teacher was teaching an SS2 class lessons that
were ‘blasphemous’ in Islam.
According to a witness, who simply
identified himself as “Alhaji Surajo,” the angry youth took to the streets of
Funtua, vandalising property and ended up attacking two churches.
So what justification do they've for this crime? What did the churches have to do with whatever the school teacher was teaching? Why must they take up arms every time in what they perceive to be 'blasphemy' to their religion? Are we not in a secular state? Are there no other religious groups that would perceive their own views as blasphemy but simply choose the path of peace and tolerance?
ReplyDeleteA wise man once said to me "I am a Muslim, but when I enter the lecture room I leave my religion at the door, and teach theory of human evolution ".
This man is one of the top professors we have today in the field of archaeology.
These youths should learn to put their illiteracy and shallow thinking aside when they go to school.
