Holy See residents
consume double the number of bottles per year – on average – drunk in France or
Italy as a whole
|
Latest statistics released by the Wine Institute
indicates that more wine is drunk per person in the Vatican City than any
another country in the world.
The Vatican City, the smallest country in
the world, is the seat of the Roman Catholic Church where the Pope resides as
Head of State.
According to the figures, the residents of
the Vatican consume, on the average about 74 litres of red wine. This is
roughly about 105 bottles in a year.
That’s around double the amount drunk by the average person in
France or Italy as a whole, and triple the quantity consumed in the UK.
